I am the Community Management Director at Smiley360, a community of consumers who try products for free and share their opinions online. We host regular Twitter “parties”, an hour of chat based on a specific brand or topic.
Why Twitter and TweetChat?
Twitter is the ideal platform to host a public conversation for a large group of people. We think of it as a town hall meeting, a conference or a club night, except it all takes place online. The hashtag unites the conversation, and we get huge exposure when our party hashtag trends on Twitter—almost all of our Twitter parties have trended nationwide. Tweetchat is a great tool for our community because it aggregates all relevant tweets in a continually updating feed, which Twitter.com doesn’t provide.
What is your chat about?
Every chat (or party as we call them) is about something different. A Twitter party is a fun-filled hour, sponsored by a brand, where people get together to chat about a common topic. For example, the #BakingSodaUses party was a conversation about the hundreds of uses for baking soda in cooking, cleaning, deodorizing and personal care. With thanks to Arm & Hammer™ Baking Soda, we gave away prizes every seven minutes throughout the hour.
Tell us about your community?
Smiley360 is a community of influential consumers who try products for free and share their feedback with friends both online and off. We work with brands in the categories of food, personal care, household, health, beauty, nutrition, entertainment and more to send branded product experiences in the mail. Our members try the product, share free samples or coupons with friends and report back with their feedback. Smiley is completely free and anyone can join. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, you can sign up here.
What inspired the chat?
We were looking for a way to help our clients meet their fans, find new fans and hear feedback on their products—Twitter parties tick all those boxes. And it’s a two-way-street, because people attending the party get to have fun, learn something new, meet people and possibly win a prize. To date, we have hosted over 40 Twitter parties on behalf of our clients.
Can you share with us one or two success stories from TweetChat?
The Smiley360 community is a powerful force that has made our party hashtags trend on Twitter during major world events—including the announcement of the new pope in March 2013 and the birth of Prince George in July 2013. Our branded hashtags were nationwide trending topics even when the world was talking about these big news stories.
How can TweetChats improve?
As party hosts, we’d like it if Tweetchat could “pin” our tweets to the top of the page. We’re leading the conversation, but party-goers can miss our tweets as they rapidly move down the feed.
